From Videa to Vdea
Why we changed the name.
The original name
Videa.
The platform originally launched as Videa.
The idea was simple.
Video + Idea.
It sounded intuitive.
It explained the concept.
At least on the surface.
The SEO reality
Competing with "video" is a losing game.
Very quickly, one problem became obvious.
The name Videa sits one letter away from "video".
That means:
- Competing with one of the most searched words on the internet
- Search results dominated by YouTube and massive platforms
- Constant autocorrect behavior
- High noise, low signal
We were trying to rank against gravity.
Brand clarity vs discoverability
A name that explains everything can still fail.
Videa explained the product.
But explanation does not equal defensibility.
A strong brand name should:
- Be distinct
- Be ownable
- Be searchable
- Not compete with generic terms
Videa failed on that last point.
The pivot to Vdea
Less obvious. More ownable.
We removed a letter.
Vdea.
It no longer competes directly with "video".
It is more abstract.
It is more brandable.
It is more defensible.
Now, if someone searches Vdea, they search us.
The trade-off
No one searches it yet.
There is an obvious downside.
Nobody is searching for Vdea today.
Which means:
- Zero branded search volume
- No automatic SEO lift
- All traffic must be earned
But that is cleaner.
Better to build demand for a unique term than fight a saturated one.
Strategic reasoning
Build something you can own.
The goal is not to hijack generic search traffic.
The goal is to build a name that compounds.
If the product works, the search volume will follow.
Owning a term is more powerful than borrowing attention.
“If you cannot own the word, you do not own the brand.”
What happens next
Execution decides.
The name change does not guarantee success.
It removes one structural disadvantage.
Now the focus remains:
- Build better incentives
- Improve distribution
- Learn to sell
- Create demand
