Pallet tracking: why document capture is only the first step
The product thinking behind De Blue: connect pallet paperwork, keep original evidence and make reconciliation exceptions visible.
A photo is the beginning of the record
Photographing a pallet slip is a useful first step. It keeps the paper available after a driver leaves the site. The harder question comes afterwards: which movement does it describe, which other documents belong with it, and what still needs checking?
De Blue addresses that broader workflow. The product combines document capture with pallet tracking and an office view of the evidence. The objective is a usable record, rather than a folder full of disconnected photographs.
Connect references without losing the original
A trip can produce several pieces of paperwork. A loading document and an offloading slip may use different references, yet still describe related activity. Useful reconciliation needs those relationships to be visible.
An extracted value is an interpretation of a source. Keeping the original photograph alongside the reading lets the office inspect uncertainty, check a reference and understand why a record was linked. Automation is more useful when people can follow its evidence.
Separate physical activity from account evidence
A photograph of paperwork, a physical pallet movement and an account confirmation answer different questions. Treating them as interchangeable can hide work that still needs doing. A count difference can identify an exception without explaining its cause.
The product principle is to keep those distinctions visible. The office should be able to see what was captured, what was recorded and what remains unresolved, rather than relying on a single reassuring total.
Design the exception path as carefully as the easy path
Clear paperwork should move through the workflow with little repeated entry. Unclear text, missing evidence or conflicting references need a specific next action. Otherwise automation simply moves the uncertainty to another screen.
This is the direction behind De Blue: capture documents, connect evidence and make exceptions actionable. It is not a claim of measured accuracy, guaranteed savings or automatic completion of official CHEP processes. Read the De Blue project page or visit De Blue for the platform.
